King of Highways is an action racing game set across the roads of Malaysia. Players take control of a yellow Panda Kingz in a high-stakes story where one debt leads to a race called THE BOLT from Kuala Lumpur to the foot of Kinabalu. The narrative pits the driver against seven rivals, each with their own reasons for owing the same figure known as Along. Success clears the debt while failure carries heavy consequences, all unfolding after dark on real Malaysian routes.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on aggressive driving and risk management during nighttime races. Takedowns involve slamming rivals into walls, traffic, or off the road. When a crash occurs, Impact Time slows the action, allowing players to steer the wreck into an opponent for mutual destruction. Nitro builds through near misses, oncoming traffic, drifts, and air time, with chaining these actions multiplying the score. A dedicated PILE-UP event lets drivers launch into live junctions to maximize damage, steering the wreck through multiplier rings and triggering PETIR effects. Controls support keyboard or full gamepads, including Xbox and PlayStation prompts, and two chase camera options provide close or distant views.
Races emphasize real landmarks such as Bukit Bintang's neon, the Federal Highway, Melaka's Red Square, the Penang Bridge in a storm, Perlis paddy fields, Ipoh's limestone formations, the Kuching waterfront, and Kinabalu's summit road. Traffic features Malaysian plates, while environments shift through golden hour, blue hour, and full neon night with glowing shop fronts, hanging lanterns, and reflective wet roads.
Game Modes
King Mode delivers the full story campaign from Kuala Lumpur to Kinabalu. It includes seven rival duels plus a final confrontation with Along at the summit. Arcade mode unlocks any previously reached road and allows selection of any driver whose pink slip has been claimed through victories. The experience spans 16 chapters covering every state and territory, plus a bonus Midnight Belum segment. A separate bonus race opens on the Sepang Circuit once King Mode reaches the halfway point. Five event types structure the action: Race, Amuk, Pile-Up, Sprint, and the Finale.
Eight cars appear in total, starting with the Panda Kingz and expanding to the unique rides of defeated rivals. Each vehicle supports garage paint options. Every race begins after seven in the evening, progressing through changing light conditions.
The Setting and Story
The game draws from Malaysian geography and culture for its routes and atmosphere. Shophouse rows, overhead signs for actual towns, and period-appropriate lighting create a grounded backdrop. The story revolves around debt, rivalry, and personal stakes for each of the seven opponents, including a courier, a tycoon, a fisherman's daughter, a rally driver, a framed ex-cop, an engine builder, and a timber hauler. Beating them transfers their marker, car, and associated narrative thread. A voiced cast portrays Along, the narrator, the rivals, and DJ Guruh, while BOLT FM 99.9 broadcasts original tracks alongside music by Kevin MacLeod.
Is It Worth Playing?
King of Highways suits players who enjoy arcade-style racing with destruction mechanics, a linear story campaign, and location-specific routes. The Early Access build focuses on single-player progression through King Mode and unlocked Arcade content, supported by photo mode for capturing moments and full controller compatibility. Those drawn to nighttime Malaysian road racing, rival takedowns, and chained scoring systems will find the core loop engaging. The game remains in active development, so availability and feature completeness depend on the current build state.
