Miskatonic University Art Club is an indie casual game on PC centered on illustrating creatures from the Cthulhu mythos. Players receive vague descriptions drawn from the Necronomicon and attempt to create recognizable drawings that fellow club members can identify. The experience blends creative drawing with deduction and light competition in sessions that last several rounds.
Gameplay
Each round begins with every participant receiving a unique creature name and its accompanying description, visible only to them. Using the provided text, players draw the creature before a timer expires. The two available styles include an oil painting approach that supports layering and color blending, along with a shapes method that relies on combining square, triangle, circle, and star stamps.
Once drawings finish, all illustrations appear together with names hidden. Participants then match each drawing to the correct description. Some descriptions may lack any corresponding artwork, adding an extra layer of challenge. Scoring awards one point for each correct identification a player makes and one point for each time another player correctly identifies their own drawing. The process repeats across five rounds, after which the player with the highest total becomes the Outstanding Member.
Hard difficulty introduces restrictions from the club president in later rounds, such as limiting drawings to black and white, restricting ink usage, or allowing only a single stamp shape. Separate cute descriptions rephrase the same creatures in gentler terms for variety. Completed illustrations save automatically to a gallery that lets players display one favorite per creature and supports solo drawing sessions without time limits.
Game Modes
Play with Friends supports two to twelve participants through room codes or direct invites. Each room allows customization of drawing style, time limit, difficulty, and other settings to suit the group.
Random Match also accommodates two to twelve players by automatically grouping those seeking matches. The session begins once all participants join. Both modes require at least two players for online play and draw from the same pool of ninety-five mythos creatures.
Additional Features
The game supports Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. Illustrations remain accessible in the gallery for later viewing or solo practice. The core loop emphasizes quick creative decisions and social deduction rather than precise artistic skill, since the goal is recognizability over perfection.
Is It Worth Playing?
This title suits players who enjoy casual multiplayer drawing games with a Lovecraftian twist and light deduction elements. Sessions scale well for small groups or larger parties, and the gallery provides ongoing value through saved artwork and optional solo sessions. Those who appreciate flexible drawing tools, variable difficulty, and repeated play with the same creature descriptions will find consistent engagement. The game delivers straightforward fun without complex progression systems, making it a solid choice for short online gatherings focused on creativity and guessing.
