ZombieRush is an indie single-player first-person extraction brawler available on PC. Players step through portals into zombie-infested fantasy dungeons, scavenge items, and improvise weapons on the fly to survive escalating hordes before attempting extraction.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on scavenging whatever items appear in the environment and turning them into temporary weapons through a radial crafting wheel accessed during combat. Basic combinations produce explosive results, such as pairing flint and powder for a bomb or attaching a bomb to an axe to create the Boom Basher, a melee option that delivers explosive damage with each swing. Weapons tend to break after limited use, forcing constant adaptation as runs progress deeper into the dungeons.
Rooms present immediate risks because the horde grows tougher with each step. Players must decide in the moment whether to engage or reposition while managing limited resources. Fantasy settings include prisons, smugglers' warrens, thieves' halls, cult catacombs, and long-sealed tombs, each adding distinct layouts and enemy placements that reward quick improvisation over pre-planned loadouts.
Game Modes
ZombieRush operates entirely in single-player. Each run begins with entry through the Collector's portals and ends either with a successful extraction or failure. After reaching a boss encounter, players choose between a safe extraction that preserves progress or pushing forward for a full dungeon clear that carries higher risk and potential reward.
The structure emphasizes repeated runs rather than persistent multiplayer sessions. Every attempt resets the dungeon layout while carrying forward only upgrades earned between excursions.
The Collector's Curiosity Bazaar
Between runs, players return to the Collector's Curiosity Bazaar, a hub managed by an eccentric curator focused on portal technology and the materials gathered from zombies. The goblin Conservator known as the Progressor refines collected goop into permanent upgrades for the player's kit. Repeatable field requests from Bob in Acquisitions provide additional tasks that influence progression. The Collector's growing collection of curios serves as a visual record of completed runs and materials secured.
Is It Worth Playing?
ZombieRush suits players who enjoy single-player extraction experiences built around on-the-spot crafting and resource management. The emphasis on disposable improvised weapons and the choice between cautious extraction or aggressive dungeon clears creates a clear risk-reward loop that rewards experimentation across multiple attempts. Those drawn to indie titles with focused mechanics rather than large-scale multiplayer will find the compact structure and fantasy dungeon variety engaging for short, repeatable sessions. The game remains in active development with its core systems intact as described.
