VALD in EUROPA is a strategy game set on PC where players work to unite twenty-six nations across forty-five turns by leveraging the abilities of twenty-one women who serve as key strategic assets.
Gameplay
Each day begins with four actions available to the player. These include invading territories, touring lands under control, speaking with a princess-general, or dispatching a scout while hiring mercenaries. Choosing which action to forgo shapes the overall approach and determines how resources and alliances develop over the limited turns. Captured queens become subjects for judgment, with options to execute, recruit, or release them. Recruiting places the queen on the field as a general under the player's command. Maintaining loyalty requires courting these figures, as seven rivals actively pursue unsettled princesses. Leaving one unattended risks her defection to a rival. Certain routes halt rival movement entirely, and deepening bonds prevents targeting altogether. Historical names appear for characters and locations, yet all personalities, relationships, and events remain fictional inventions rather than documented history.
Game Modes
The core experience revolves around five distinct routes, each selected for a single playthrough. Route choice alters the world state and carries forward results into subsequent runs, creating variation across multiple campaigns. No additional named modes appear beyond this route-based structure that emphasizes repeated play with persistent elements.
Visual Presentation and Text
Over six hundred illustrations, created individually in watercolour and pencil, accompany the experience alongside one hundred thirty-six character sprites. The Japanese text serves as the original version. The English text results from machine translation without human proofreading, remaining readable yet distinct from professional localisation work. Post-release corrections from players are noted as welcome.
Content Guidelines
The game contains no non-consensual scenes, no explicit depictions of sexual acts, and no full nudity. Characters who are minors do not appear in any romantic or sexual contexts.
Is It Worth Playing?
VALD in EUROPA suits players who seek a focused strategy experience built around limited daily actions, territorial control, and character recruitment mechanics within a European unification theme. The route system and carry-over results encourage multiple playthroughs for those interested in exploring different outcomes through alliance management and rival avoidance. The emphasis on visual storytelling through hand-painted illustrations adds depth for audiences drawn to detailed artwork paired with decision-heavy gameplay. Those preferring professional English localisation or broader multiplayer elements may find the machine-translated text and singleplayer focus less aligned with their expectations. The absence of explicit content makes it accessible for strategy enthusiasts seeking narrative integration without mature themes.
