Now, for Train Simulator Classic, accomplished developer High Iron Simulations brings Union Pacific and BNSF railroading to the famed and rugged California canyon with Feather River Canyon Enhanced Scenario Pack 02.
Feather River Canyon Enhanced Scenario Pack 02 includes ten realistic career scenarios featuring diverse Union Pacific and BNSF freight operations ranging from priority manifests to heavy grain and oil unit trains to locals and BNSF’s frequent and unique “bare tables” movements. And the challenging career scenarios included in this pack cover the length and breadth of the highly detailed and popular Train Simulator Classic Feather River Canyon Enhanced route.
The Western Pacific was merged into Union Pacific in 1982. When, in turn, Southern Pacific was merged into Union Pacific in 1996, BNSF was granted extensive trackage rights on UP lines, including those with Rio Grande (D&RGW) and Western Pacific heritages. During this same time period, the ex-Western Pacific “Inside Gateway” north of Keddie came under full BNSF ownership and operations.
The Portola–Oroville line today is a segment of Union Pacific’s Canyon Subdivision, while the line north from Keddie is BNSF’s Gateway Subdivision. With contemporary “Super Railroads” Union Pacific and BNSF both utilizing the Feather River Canyon, the line is a vital and captivating steel artery that delivers mountain railroading at its best.
With Feather River Canyon Enhanced Scenario Pack 02, you’ll have the opportunity to climb aboard Union Pacific GE AC4400CW, EMD SD70ACe, EMD GP40-2, and BNSF GE ES44DC diesel motive power as you serve as an engineer and handle the twisting grades and heavy tonnage of the legendary and historic ex-Western Pacific crossing of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
With Feather River Canyon Enhanced Scenario Pack 02, you will:
- Serve as engineer of Union Pacific’s Canyon Subdivision workhorse manifest freight M-NPRV (North Platte-Roseville) as it makes its westward descent through the Feather River Canyon.
- Handle challenging Union Pacific local and switching duties as you work UP long-distance locals LRC60 and LRR66.
- Amid the autumn splendor of the Feather River Canyon, bring a heavy Union Pacific unit grain train downgrade through the heart of the majestic canyon.
- Accept an early morning call to handle yard duty at Oroville and make set-out and pick-ups at nearby lineside shippers.
- Take the throttle of BNSF heavy freight H-BARPAS (Barstow-Pasco) as it departs Oroville and makes the climb of Union Pacific’s Canyon Subdivision en route to BNSF’s Gateway Subdivision.
- Experience one of the route’s most unusual (but frequent) movements as you handle a BNSF “bare tables” (empty stack well cars) climbing up the canyon and onto the Gateway Subdivision.
- Accept the challenging of bringing a heavy BNSF unit train of oil from the Bakken shale fields of North Dakota down the Gateway and Canyon Subdivisions.
Note: For full use, this scenario pack requires the Train Simulator Feather River Canyon Enhanced Route; the Tehachapi Pass: Mojave - Bakersfield Route, and the Marias Pass Route (the latter two for locomotives and rolling stock).
