School Dream is an indie simulation game set in a small private high school where player choices shape daily interactions and nighttime experiences through live AI conversations.
Gameplay
Players begin ninth grade at Brookfield Academy in a small Oregon town. The experience centers on eight classmates, each with distinct personalities, homes, and private concerns. These characters remember prior conversations and form opinions about the player and one another, allowing relationships to develop naturally over time. There are no preset dialogue options. Instead, players type or speak freely, and the classmates respond in kind during live generation that requires an internet connection.
Each school day unfolds in segments such as Morning Arrival, Lunch, or Free Period. These slices of time determine where classmates gather and what topics arise. The first month follows a 30-day calendar filled with ongoing stories that advance independently of player input. After school, plans made with classmates lead to specific locations where conversations continue and, in some cases, shift into self-contained activities.
At the end of the day, players enter dreams influenced by the events and emotions of the hours just passed. The overall loop emphasizes freedom in dialogue and the ripple effects of social decisions across school life and beyond.
Game Modes
After-school outings include fully playable segments. In Paintball, teams form in a lobby setting, players use cover during matches, and outcomes reflect which classmates worked together. Fishing takes place at a lake with participants, tracking each rod and every catch made during the session.
Dream sequences function as distinct experiences drawn from the day's events. Murder Mystery requires questioning classmates, identifying contradictions, and making an accusation, with the possibility of an incorrect conclusion. Homework Nightmare begins as a relaxed beach scene that shifts when an overdue assignment comes to mind, leading to unsettling activity inside an empty school building. Journey to Mars places the player in space, piloting beyond Earth and confronting challenges there. No Pants Escape involves navigating the school without being noticed after arriving without trousers, shown from behind in underwear with no sexual content.
Additional after-school locations and dreams are planned for the full release.
Story and Setting
The narrative unfolds through the relationships built with the eight classmates and the consequences of daily interactions. Every conversation contributes to a shared history that influences future encounters and off-screen events summarized by the system. The small-town high school setting keeps focus on personal worries and group dynamics rather than large-scale events. Because responses generate live, each playthrough produces different exchanges even with the same starting conditions.
Is It Worth Playing?
School Dream remains in active development for PC and Mac, with a planned release in July 2027. No user reviews are available yet. The core appeal lies in its free-form conversation system and the way school days and dreams adapt to player actions. Those who enjoy narrative-driven simulation experiences with emphasis on social dynamics and variable daily outcomes may find the concept engaging. The requirement for an internet connection during play supports the AI features but limits offline use. Players interested in this style of indie simulation can follow development updates through the wishlist on the platform where it is listed.
