Head Full Of Zombi is a single-player first-person shooter set in post-war England on the real island of Lindisfarne. Players control a survivor whose helicopter crashes on the lighthouse after an ancient force known as The Eye turns prisoners, monks and guards into flesh-eating ghouls. The island loses power and the dead rise in massive numbers. The game places emphasis on immediate combat, scavenging and precise positioning rather than menus or tutorials.
Gameplay
Each of the ten levels drops the player straight into combat on top of the lighthouse or in other island locations. The horde advances immediately, forcing quick decisions with whatever weapons and props the environment provides. Exploding barrels, claymores, grenades and choke points become key tools alongside standard firearms. Scavenging occurs on the move for scattered ammo, weapons and food. Eating restores health and can permanently increase maximum health when done consistently.
A single key-carrying zombie appears near the end of each wave. Killing it allows the gate to open and progress to continue. Death sends the player back to the start of the level with no checkpoints or carried-over progress, encouraging repeated attempts to improve positioning and resource use. Levels draw from the actual geography of Lindisfarne, including the ruined priory, the castle on its volcanic crag, Victorian lime kilns, upturned herring-boat sheds and the tidal causeway.
Enemy variety includes boomers that charge and detonate, armoured zombies protected by strapped-on objects that require body shots or helmet removal, crawlers that stay low and easy to overlook, sleepers that lie among corpses until approached, eaters feeding on the dead, bat carriers that swing found weapons, gunners that fire back with picked-up firearms and barrel throwers that hurl explosives. The horde can reach thousands on screen at once. Every zombie supports dismemberment in twelve locations plus decapitation, burning or explosive destruction, producing more than 70,000 distinct combinations in the first level alone.
The arsenal consists of seven firearms plus grenades and claymores. Melee weapons remain in development. An original analogue soundtrack in the giallo style plays throughout, composed specifically for the game.
Game Modes
Head Full Of Zombi offers only a single-player campaign. No co-op, multiplayer or additional modes exist. The experience consists of ten escalating levels that must be completed in sequence. Each run restarts fully on death, creating a loop of immediate combat, scavenging, key retrieval and gate opening. The design avoids puzzles, base building, crafting systems and any waiting periods between action sequences.
Setting and Atmosphere
The story unfolds in 1948 on Holy Island after The Eye is unearthed beneath Emmanuel Head, the historic White Pyramid daymark. Technology fails and the island falls into darkness as the dead overrun the locations. Levels recreate real landmarks and terrain features of Lindisfarne, grounding the horror in a tangible place. The soundtrack reinforces the period tension with its raw, analogue approach.
Is It Worth Playing?
Head Full Of Zombi suits players who want a focused, high-pressure single-player zombie shooter that drops them into combat without delay. The restart-on-death structure rewards learning enemy patterns, environmental use and resource management across repeated level attempts. Its ten-level length targets a compact playtime while the escalating horde density and dismemberment systems provide visual and mechanical variety. As an Early Access title on PC with planned Steam Deck support, the game currently delivers the core loop described in its design. Those seeking dense, immediate zombie encounters without extraneous systems will find the honest difficulty and direct pacing a strong match.
